Mexico is continuously improving the quality of life in the country for the enjoyment of both their citizens and visitors.
The most noticeable improvement in recent years is the development of Mexico's road systems and an increase of conveniently located gas/service stations for automobile tourist travelers. Well maintained toll (Cuota) roads have been added to major destinations and are well worth the $ value when compared to the wear and tear on shocks, brakes and tires when opting for the free (Libre) alternate routes.
However, if you have time why not explore Mexico's real culture and hospitality along the free (Libre) routes. Here you will be welcomed by Mexico's friendly and humble people. Choosing the free route will take you through beautiful mountain country, quaint countryside and friendly villages. A word of caution though, to take your time as livestock are usually free to roam and it is a common sight to see cows, goats and burros crossing the roads. Also, there are topes (speed bumps), on the road to slow traffic before and after every small town. Take your time and enjoy the many local wares and fresh produce items available on roadside stands that you won't find at beach front resorts.
While the Cuota (toll) roads will speed you to your destination along a wide straight highway similar to major interstates in the U.S. and Canadian highways, the Libre (free) roads, wind you at a much slower pace, past many site-seeing opportunities such as waterfalls, caverns, wildlife, and small ruins that many of which, are known mainly to the local people and are not in major tour books,
which is precisely the purpose of this website.
Our goal is to try to bring people a better understanding of the REAL Mexico, beyond the "glitz and glamor" of the major high priced fly-in resort destinations. While also, including in some of the really good deals that you can find all along the way!
